Hello, I hope all is well. Why should seniors socialize? Socialization keeps seniors active, stimulates their mind, and enriches their soul. Additionally, socializing allows seniors’ spirits to lift and keeps the door of happiness open. You can clearly see that socializing helps fight loneliness, isolation, and depression.
Providing an opportunity for our seniors to get out of the house, socialize with others, and enjoy themselves is essential to helping them maintain a healthy lifestyle and live life to the fullest. Unfortunately, as seniors aged, the lack of socialization comes into play. The two most pressing obstructions seniors are met with when trying to maintain a healthy social life, are availability and accessibility. How many events do you know of that are planned for your Senior Loved One?
Do you know how seniors can socialize? Seniors can socialize in many ways such as:
- Attend events such as health fairs, movies, dinners, picnics, weddings, etc.
- Become a volunteer
- Invite friends over
- Join a senior group
- Join social media i.e. Facebook, Pinterest etc.
- Mentor a youth
- Play games with fellow friends
- Talk on the telephone
- Visit a friend
- Form a buddy system
To summarize, socialization helps seniors live life to the fullest and bring more happiness into their lives. Seniors should socialize, as it is vital to their life. Putting socialization on the backburner should not be the answer. Our society strives on socializing and everyone, no matter the age, should be part of this fascinating activity.
As caregivers to our seniors, one of our goals should be to encourage our Senior Loved Ones (SLO) to have a social life. We can help our SLOs by taking them to events, arrange a friendship date at their home and converse with them about how socializing helps fights loneliness, isolation, and depression, but instead uplifts their spirits.
Please share your thoughts about seniors socializing.
If you know of a social activity that our seniors can partake in, please let us know too.
The power of caring is a social act.
Forever care,
